Track Santa in 3D with Cesium

On December 24, 2012, NORAD is using Cesium and Bing Maps to show Santa's route (tech info for geeks). The tracker works on all browsers including Internet Explorer. The 3D experience requires a web browser that supports WebGL, such as Chrome or Firefox.

To see if your browser is supported, open the Cesium Viewer. If you see a 3D globe, your browser will be able to track Santa in 3D on December 24 by visiting the Track Santa page on www.noradsanta.org.

If 3D does not work well on your system, update your video card drivers. First, determine the manufacturer of your video card. In Microsoft Windows, go to the Start menu and type Device Manager, and click on Device Manager when it appears above. Then find Display adapters in the tree, and expand it to see the manufacturer's name. It will most likely be NVIDIA, AMD/ATI, or Intel.

Run the Device Manager from the Start menu. Expand Display adapters in the Device Manager to see your video card manufacturer. In this example, the manufacturer is AMD/ATI.

Download and install the driver from your manufacturer:

After installing the driver, browse to the Track Santa page on www.noradsanta.org to track Santa in 3D.

If your system still does not support 3D, you can track Santa in 2D using Bing Maps by browsing to the Track Santa page on www.noradsanta.org.
